Week 4... NYC Fashion Week

So it's been a few weeks since my last post, so now it's time to play catch up. I have officially been in New York for a month now and sooo much has happened already. I still currently intern at Ideeli. We had an interns breakfast where we got to meet the president of Ideeli Bob Rosenblatt. He told us how he came up in his career, encouraged us to take risks, and don't be afraid of change and  success. I did manage to snag a weekend to go with my friend and a few others to Atlantic City. We had a blast and did a little shopping. The boardwalk and beach is even beautiful covered in snow.

Then the next weekend came blizzard Nemo. Being in a blizzard is no fun first off, inches of snow, ice and a few power outages. Thank God we made it through, even the blizzard couldn't shut down Fashion Week though.  :)
This year I was lucky enough to get into a volunteer program and participate in the New York Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. It was an amazing experience.   I mostly helped with set up and breakdown for most of the shows I worked on. I even got a chance to see the shows that I worked on. There were many shows going on this week. I got the chance to work on Alon Livne, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Nanette Lapore and Milly by Michelle Smith shows. All of the designers collections were great. They all had dark blues, plaids, reds, plums and purples. Nanette and Milly's lines both had metallics infused in them, from the shoes to the bags and clothes.  I can't really go into details about everything that I experienced but I did manage to get pics from other sources.

Thats all for now!! Maybe my next post will be a trends forecast mixed with a little Polyvore. So until next time and new adventures. Don't be afraid to take risks and wanting to be successful. Be eager to learn and ready to teach.

So It Begins... Week 1, 14 More To Go!

New York Times building

So I've been in New York for a week now. I've started my internship at Ideeli and I'm taking in every little bit I can. So this past weekend I went into the city with my friend to find my work place. It took us forever and it felt like we walked all over creation just to find out that Ideeli's main office is in the New York Times building. We walked past the building a few times not realizing it lol. I'm starting to get the hang of things and finding my way in the city. I sometimes get a little turned around and happen to stumble upon different buildings like the New York Public Library or the Empire State building. I've even been to the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) /office/building.

Over all New York is growing on me and is treating me good so far. While here in New York I want to take advantage of as much as possible. So what's better than being apart of New York's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in February, which I will be volunteering at. Due to certain privacy clauses I will not be able to post any pictures or post about any of the shows on my blog :(  .  In the mean time I'll be going to my internship everyday where I work in Ideeli's studio. At the studio is where they take all the photos for the products to be shown on their website. I work with the stylists mainly but I also help out in other areas if needed be. So far I have assisted a few photo shoots and sets and even got to dress a model and do a little bit of styling on one of the themed shoots.

My stop for work
I know this may not see like much but I am so thankful for my blessings and my first week going so well. Just as week 1 is rapping up I'm excited to see what all the other weeks(14 more) have in store for me. So in the mean time I'll continue my many adventures or where ever the subway leads me. Also you can always find some type of entertainment at the stations, whether it's live music or teenage boys dancing on the train trying to make a little change. Well that's all I have for this week and I hope to bring you more next week. :) :)

New Year...New Me & New York

Well first off Happy New Years!!!! It's been about a month an half since my last posting. Lets see what have I been up to since then. I have finished up my last semester of course work for undergrad Fashion Merchandising and Apparel Design (YAY Me!!), I completed my first garment for a client, and I got offered a fashion internship at Ideeli in New York. So I guess a lot has happened to me. I am grateful to be able to speak of these accomplishments.

So tomorrow is the big day, I leave/ move to New York for a few months to start my internship. I am a little nervous but I know I will be okay. During my internship I plan on making a weekly post about my adventures in the city and my job. Hopefully I can stick to it and have very interesting stories to tell.
So as cliche as this may sound it's a new year... time for a new ME, time for new experiences and growth. With that being said I have posted a video of Alicia Keys new song a "Brand New Me", I love the lyrics to this song.

A. Keys on Fire!!

Alicia Keys is the girl on fire. She's on the move, she has a new album coming out and she recently launched a shoe line with Reebok. She has been a fan of Reebok since her younger days and her hubby has also collaborated with Reebok before. She played a big part in the designs of the shoes. Some of the sneakers feature skylines, piano keys, tribal print and more. The line features hi tops and low cut sneakers.  Below are pics of her in the Reebok ad and some shoes from the line. I have made a styled looked based off one of her shoes. Enjoy!!!!

This past month I have not been blogging as much because I have been sooo busy with classes and Relay for Life planning at my University. I do have some pics to document what all I have been working on and up to. I went to a Relay for Life summit and designed my first bodice pattern ( that was exciting) and like always looking for internships, but I did not forget about a style post. The look I put together is another "this or that" look. You can pick between either look and still be cute and comfy for the Fall.I could not forget about music... I picked this video and song ( 3:16 am by Jhene Aiko ) because I love all the lyrics, graphics and visual angles in this video. I can also apply some of the lyrics to my life right now. Seeing as though I am finishing up my last semester of undergrad and doing an internship next semester I am taking a leap into the real  world. I am not afraid to fall like the lyrics say, if I do then I have to pick back up and learn from that experience but  you can't be afraid to fall.
